Bolt Safety Society

Vedanshi Vala is an alumnus of YLSBC's Youth Leadership Program, and continues to apply learnings from these programs towards her current projects and initiatives. One of Vedanshi's contributions to her community is through her role as Co-Founder and Executive Director of BOLT Safety Society.

BOLT Safety is a federally registered not-for-profit aiming to increase personal safety and provide better support for victims and survivors of sexual violence and domestic abuse. Most recently, Vedanshi spearheaded the organization's 'Safe Hubs' pilot project with the support of a grant from the Government of Canada, TakingItGlobal, and RisingYouth, which in partnership with local businesses, provides a network of safe spaces across the Vancouver Lower Mainland. The project compliments BOLT Safety's mobile platform, which in collaboration with community experts, helps increase education and awareness in an effort to flip the victim-blaming narrative and foster a community that can provide better allyship and support for survivors.

Vedanshi believes that the leadership program at YLSBC has been instrumental in motivating her to turn a vision into reality, and encourages other youth to give it a shot as well!
